There were several branches to the Putman/Putnam families. One came from England, one from Dutch origins, and this one, from France/Germany.
Jacob Boudemont is the earliest of these ancestors found to date. Born in Northern France in 1660, he met and married his wife, Jeanne Daudigny in Chevenne, Aisne, Piccardie, France. They, being Huegenots, were exiled for their religious beliefs by the King of France and fled to Germany in 1680 with their daughter, Jeanne, born July 8, 1678. They settled across the border into the German Palatinates, near Rohrbach, and had a least one son, Phillip Boudemont, born in Muhlofen, July 28, 1685, near Rohrbach. He met and married his wife, Maria Magdalene Buchell in about 1707 in Rohrbach. They lived in Rohrbach, in Kreis Berggzabern, Germany . Maria was born in 1686 in Minfeld, and died in Rohrbach on March 5, 1741. This information comes from Betty Eynon. Phillip and Maria had four children: Maria Magdalena, Philip Jacob , Andreas, and Johan Philip. The name was changed in Germany from Boudemont, to Boutemont, to Buttman. The children who moved on to the colonies, Andreas and Philip, had their names Anglicized to Puttmann and Putman. Jacob and his wife, Jeanne, along with his daughter and son, stayed in Germany the remainder of their lives. Notes for Jacob BOUDEMONT.
